If you choose a Celebrant for your wedding, for example, you can also choose where, when, words, vows, music – no restrictions
Your day, your way.
Please note however, that under current English law, a Celebrant cannot carry out the legal bit (watch this space, as this will change in time!) – so you need to go to the Register office first – just as you would register a birth, you register the marriage. You then get your licence to have your most personal and unique wedding celebration exactly how you want. Not many bridal couples are aware that you DO NOT have to say your vows or exchange your rings at the Register office – save that for your Celebrant to weave into a beautiful personalized ceremony that’s really about the two of you, and reflects who you are.
I will provide you with a commemorative certificate of your day, signed at the ceremony – remember that unless you choose to tell them, your guests will be unaware that you are (in the eyes of the law) already married. Because they are watching the vows and rings being exchanged, this looks like the ‘real thing’.
Celebrant-led ceremonies are perfect for all weddings, but particularly help with inter-faith marriages, or weddings that have taken place abroad where the couple can’t have everyone there, so a ‘second’ wedding takes place in the UK, or same-sex weddings, and so on.
So much flexibility!
